I would like to thank everyone who was able to make a donation for the purpose of obtaining new features for the forum. The donation goal was met rather quickly and we here at Kung Fu Fandom can not thank you enough for the support. The plan is once the new site is up and running, the focus will then turn to the forum on updating and adding these new features and we will continue to strive to make your time spent here on the forum as enjoyable as possible. _/|\_

Asian DVD Club is no more...

I was wondering if they could be the same under two different names ? I ask for this because when Wu Tang Collection showed the movie The quadrals of the Los on youtube, soon after (or at the same moment, since I don't regularly visit the site), FLK was selling the movie on dvd...

It's because FLK downloaded it from YouTube in order to sell it.

cinemaggedon is closed and has been closed for years now no?

It's not down at all and members who uploads regularly were given invitees (1 to 5) during the Last Holidays.

Good riddance. Now people might actually buy shit so that companies actually see a demand for official releases.

Hopefully the wrecking ball comes down on Wu Tang Collection and FLK as well for stealing custom work and reaping the benefits. I'm retiring from the bootleg scene after Hitman in the Hand of Buddha anyway, and will no longer be releasing customs (at least not openly).

Patience and demand works, we already have the official and remastered releases of Blade of Fury, Pedicab Driver, No Retreat No Surrender, The Dragon's Snake Fist, Drunken Master II, and Wheels on Meals we have waited years for. Lots more to come, even IFD are restoring their catalogue. Soon we could see Ninja Terminator on Blu Ray in 2.35:1.

I don’t think ADC was ever primarily about downloading new releases as fast as possible, at least it never was for me. It was about maintaining a catalog of films that were long out of print and were never going to be available ever again. All the stores that offered Hong Kong DVDs are long gone, they are never coming back. It was about the obscure films that only saw the light of day once and wouldn’t come back again. And it was amazing for customs and Japanese media that would never get subtitled becoming more available to enthusiasts, whether pinku or tv shows. Looking at it as a place that killed new releases is limiting its importance in other areas that are going to be missed by the majority of its users, at least in my opinion. It’s potentially a huge loss for multiple genres.

Very well said. Thank you for that.

Yea, exactly. ADC is not about what we can pirate. It was a huge community that provided access to transfers of films with original dubs, english subs etc. It was a goldmine of otherwise work not available anywhere else and love put into projects we could all enjoy. I hope it comes back and we don't have to upload 100000 TB's to asiancinema... The forums too :(

Yeah well, everything comes to an end. There are a few rares I didn't get, I wanted to download the Secret Rivals 3, The invincible Super chan, Black Dragon River and a widescreen version of 5 Pattern Dragon Claws but I never got the chance. I'm just as passionate about preserving rares as anyone else, don't get me wrong, and ADC was good for it. I've just lost interest in being active in the community and feel that spending hundreds of dollars on old VHS tapes of rare kung fu movies just for some slimy jackass to sell your shit is crazy. You start to realise that all the hard work is pointless, you get no appreciation in return. We live in a society where everyone expects handouts.

Sad to see the site go but it's something I predicted 4 years ago seeing how some of the great uploaders and many frequent leechers/seeders became less active over the years, and how little to no donations were given to have the site up long enough. Guess it's licensed DVDs/Blurays, and customs now for me.

Im actually the one who uploaded Secret Rivlas 3.

Super sad to see it go but I'm not surprised. it was a great site and community and will suck not being able to grab movies that I won't be able to get anywhere else.

This was one of the main reasons I remand a longtime member. The access not only for out of print DVD's and TV shows, but modifications and subtitled obscure prints, not to mention interviews and special features long gone from newer prints I own. The community was also a big part of it, knowing what copies were better than others, what errors they contained and so on. I'm a big supporter and purchase countless titles from all over the world. If Eureka, Arrow, Koch Media, Warner Bros, Shout Factory, Sony or any other distributor puts out a worthy print of the film, I'm buying it no matter what. I've purchased every 88 Films martial arts movie even though I had access to ADC. I do believe its a double edge sword and some abuse that type of club, but I'd Like to think there are more of us good than bad.

The only replacement for now is CG.

But even cinemageddon has been very dead since the last couple of years... Before it has a great community of fandubbers and fansubbers doing custom for a lot of rare and impossible to find movies.

I did many spaghetti western custom at CG but I just don't feel like doing them anymore.... maybe once in a while if a great print comes up.

Let's just hope that the content of ADC will eventually migrate together with it's former community to another tracker. As for now I'm done... BTW, asiancinema.me is invite only atm.

Unless it’s an April Fools joke, looks like ADC will be back online soon. Official announcement interstitial page is up now.

And I guess, as a result, AsianCinema.me is gone and now back again!...

Official statement on their website:

Quote

AsianDVDClub is currently down

If you see this message you've undoubtedly noticed that ADC has been down for a while. The downtime has been due to an unannounced policy change at our host, slow communication, bad real life timing, and (most significantly) a personal illness. Though the initial cause was a lack of funds. The good news is the host assures me that our server is still up, so it wasn't a hardware failure, takedown, database crash, or anything else along those lines. In the days after the downtime began I was in contact with the host and let them know that the bill would be paid, so our server is still up (but not externally accessible) even after all this time.

The policy change at our host was, in effect, requiring that bills be paid a ways in advance of what had historically been their due date. After some back-and-forth with the host it turns out that they cut off the network access for our server because the server bill had not been paid by this other date, and from what they said during the days after the downtime began this is because some months ago we were late/behind on payment so they want to make sure we pay our bills. However this policy change had not been effectively communicated, thus we had no idea that not only was there no longer a grace period to pay a bill but they need to be paid early to ensure no loss of service. Unfortunately this led to ADC going down at what turned out to be a very inopportune time.

Some of you have seen what the initial plan was during the downtime or at least some form of that plan: get ADC back online now and then move to a new host in the near future when possible. That plan has not really changed, though the move to a new host may be delayed for a while longer than initially planned. If you are currently an ADC member and you want to help get ADC back online by donating through PayPal, you can do so by joining our IRC channel (#asiandvdclub @ Rizon) and sending a PM to ADC's SysOp (if you don't know who that is, ask in the channel) to get the details for the donation account where you can send money. Please wait for a response - which may take a while - before sending any donations so you can be sure the money will go to the correct account.

With any luck ADC will be back online soon. Once the server is re-connected, I'll perform some checks to make sure everything is still working as it should and, as long as everything checks out, ADC will be available again shortly afterwards. This page will be manually updated as needed.

I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet, they made it clear it will take them time. And unless it's an elaborate scheme to get money out of a dead horse, I'm sure they'll be back eventually.

Fingers crossed it comes back as it was a great place to grab rares and customs.

Are there any other sites similar that aren't as difficult to get into as a nun's corset??
