Brief Biography

With no formal Martial Arts training, actor, fight director, producer and writer, Leung Kar-Yan was one hell of a physical performer. Not to mention a real natural talent, when it came to the Asian action genre. Born in on the 20th of January 1949, in Hong Kong. He got a role in the film, by sending an application to Shaw Brothers studio, to become an actor. Within two days of his interview at the studio, he was cast in his first movie. Making his Hong Kong movie debut, in the 1969 Chang Cheh production, Five Shaolin Master's. Leung learnt from many people at the Studio, and he was taught personally by the legendary Lau Kar-Leung. It's no wonder, he went on to become a popular star and talent of the 1970's, following his first collaboration with Sammo Hung, Warriors Two(1978). The first of his classic collaborations, with the Peking Opera action ace. Including The Victim(1980) Knockabout(1979) with Yuen Baio, and He even enjoyed some success in Television, as his box office star faded. With the two Wuxia inspired shows, 1982's Demi-Gods & Semi-Devils, and The Return of The Condor Heroes in 1983. Nicknamed Beardy by his fanbase, Leung Kar -Yan had a worldwide following, stretching from Hong Kong to Jamaica, Europe and the United States. He continues to attract new fans, who are fresh to the Martial Arts genre. He's remianed active in the entertianment fields, with his last appearance on-screen, in the 2018 Chinese production Gng Fu Lian Meng.
