RUMOUR: Impact Wrestling To Buy Ring Of Honor?

A wild but very unverified story surfaces...

Probably not. The deal between Anthem and Mark Cuban for HDNet LLC, the parent company of AXS TV and HDNet Movies, has suddenly been finalized after entertainer Steve Harvey entered as a third partner. Cuban, the founder of the network, will still be a minority owner. Really old ROH shows are apparently part of the AXS library along with all of the US NJPW content and the ongoing Women of Wrestling show. It will be interesting to see how AXS does in the future as two weird moves already happened. One, Friday Night MMA, which was once the highest rated show on the network, was dropped. Two, the Dallas office was shutdown and 40 people were laid off. This included Adam Swift, the man who helped bring all of the current pro wrestling content to AXS in the first place. As Impact is moving to AXS, will NJPW remain or leave as it and Impact have had a historically bad relationship? Or will Anthem and former NJPW announcer Don Callis convince it that things have changed?

In other news....

September has not been a nice month for the UK wrestling scene. First, OWE announced it was postponing its UK tour, which would have seen the launch of OWE UK. This comes after OWE UK Marketing director, Sean McMahon cancelled the tour and resigned. He posted online that it was due to misconduct by another director and OWE China. Head of creative Jay Apter has also reigned. OWE China said it was going to postpone but not cancel the tour. It however admitted that it was locked out of all OWE UK media and had lost all communication with people in the UK.

It was a shocking weekend for RevPro during the finals of its annual tag team tournament. There was a botch in the final between Aussie Open and the champions Josh Bodom & Sha Samuels, which resulted in referee Aaren Wilde ringing the bell five minutes early. In case you were wondering, Aussie Open was booked to win and indeed won. Moments afterwards, Samuels went outside the ring with Wilde and body slammed him. Then, Bodom rained blows down on the ref, leaving him with severe injuries. Samuels later had a lengthy meeting with management, who accepted his apology and will issue disciplinary action later. Bodom was fired from the promotion and the tag team titles are now vacant.

Cody Rhodes had to issue an apology after taking part in a chant at AAA Triplemania. He said that he thought it was just a post match tradition and was unaware of its negative connotations.

Session Moth Martina has rejected an offer from NXT UK and instead signed with ROH. The deal allows her to continue her to work in Japan with Stardom and on the indie circuit in Europe.

Cool article - WWE, AEW, NWA - Wrestling returns to its Atlanta roots.

Drew McIntyre was sick after a WWE tour of Mexico and was ordered to see a doctor. He underwent surgery and it was said not to be "bone or muscle related". He is waiting to be cleared by WWE doctors but for the moment is resting to heal up.

Kota Ibushi is currently out of in-ring action due to a sprained ligament in his ankle. Luckily he will not need surgery, but he can't do any major movement on his ankle for the time being.

McKenzie Mitchell has signed with WWE.

Corey Graves is no longer doing both Raw and SmackDown as commentator. Graves will be only on SmackDown and Michael Cole will also be moving to SmackDown, with Renee Young will be joined by Vic Joseph and a possible 3rd name on Raw.

Ultimo Dragon has returned to Dragon Gate Wrestling.

WWE is not always the smartest as they accidentally misspelled Io Shirai's first name when they attempted to trademark the name. They put "Lo" instead of "Io" 🙄

It looks like WWE finally gave Luke Harper something to do as he helped Erick Rowan defeat Roman Reigns last night at WWE's Clash of Champions in a no-DQ match. Back in April, Harper had requested his leave but they refused and gave him an extra six months due to sitting out an injury, but it looks like perhaps they may have a "final" storyline set for him for when his contract is up. Here are the other results:

  • Cruiserweight champion Drew Gulak successfully defended his title against Humberto Carrillo and Lince Dorado in a Triple Threat Match.
  • AJ Styles retained the United States Championship against Cedric Alexander.
  • Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode are the new RAW Tag Team Champions defeating Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman who would face each other for the Universal Championship later that night.
  • Bayley successfully retained the SmackDown Women's Title against Charlotte Flair
  • The Revival are the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions defeating The New Day
  • Shinsuke Nakamura retained the Intercontinetal Champion against The Miz
  • Becky Lynch retained the RAW Women's Championship despite the fact Sasha Banks won the match but due to DQ when after she blasted Lynch with a chair to get a 2-count, Lynch's attempt at retaliation left her blasting the referee.
  • WWE Champion Kofi Kingston successfully defended the title against Randy Orton
  • Seth Rollins defended the Universal Championship against former tag team partner Braun Strowman but the celebration was cut short when "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt knocked him out post-match.

This past Saturday, after taking time off for recover from an injury, Tamina Snuka returned to in-ring action with a loss to Natalya.

WWE are still in the midst of getting Liv Morgan her new character as she was supposed to work a dark match against Ember Moon but the match was nixed by Vince McMahon. Back in July, after losing to Charlotte Flair, Morgan announced she would come back when she comes back as a "real version" of her. She teased a video of her pink locks getting cut off, so what will be the new Liv Morgan when she returns? Time will tell...

Australian wrestler Indi Hartwell has signed a developmental deal with WWE and will report to the WWEPC in Orlando next month.

Jon Moxley gave an interview about his NJPW experience and says he plans on being in the Tokyo Dome this January.

Southside Wrestling of the UK announced it was closing but now it has been bought out by RevPro. Unification title matches between the two promotions' champions will occur in the future.

The below might be an angle or might not.

TJP and Amazing Red return to the NJPW ring on the Fighting Spirit tour as well.

Rick Bognar, most famous for being the fake Razor Ramon in WWE, has passed away at age 49.

John Morrison (aka Johnny Mundo, Johnny Impact) is returning to WWE after parting ways with the company in 2011.

Southside Wrestling's final show has had major lineup changes. WWE pulled all of the NXTUK talent (El Ligero, Joseph Conners, Kay Lee Ray, Brady Phillips, Saxon Huxley, and Xia Brookside)  out of it. However, AEW announced that MJF, Shawn Spears and Cody & Brandi Rhodes would help out with the show. So all is not lost.

ROH Death Before Dishonor results:

  • Jeff Cobb defeated Brody King in a pre-show match.
  • Marty Scurll eliminated Colt Cabana in the #1 Contender's Tournament.
  • PCO eliminated Kenny King in the #1 Contender's Tournament.
  • Angelina Love defeated Kelly Klein to win the WOH title.
  • Jonathan Gresham defeated Jay Lethal.
  • The Bouncers defeated Vinny Marseglia & Silas Young.
  • Shane Taylor won a fatal four-way against Tracy Williams, Flip Gordon and Dragon Lee to retain the ROH TV title.
  • The Briscoe Bros. defeated Bandido & Mark Haskins to retain the ROH Tag titles.
  • Rush defeated Matt Taven to become the ROH World Champion.

In a weird turn of events, Rush and his brother Dragon Lee were fired from CMLL on Friday for not following programming and company guidelines. They announced that they were going to be independent for now. It's unclear how this affects Rush's title reign. However, he is now going by the name El Toro Blanco as both of the names, Rush and Dragon Lee, are trademarked by CMLL.

PCO came out to a new theme song composed by former WWE composer Jim Johnston. It is the first theme Johnston has composed since being fired from WWE.
