Pro Wrestling Thread 2019

Luke Harper has asked for his WWE release as mentioned a while back, but Vince McMahon has opted NOT to grant the release and in addition, added six months when Harper was out due to injury. All because according to reports, McMahon complained that Harper can't do a Southern accent (roll eyes)

Jeff Cobb has been allowed to leave Lucha Underground after he had threatened the failing promotion with a class action suit.

Rhyno is leaving WWE when his contract expires in July. As a result, there will be no 90-day compete clause and he has already begun the process of booking some indie shows after his contract expires.

Lio Rush is once again getting major heat backstage. He didn't show up this week on RAW (and then again neither did Bobby Lashley). However, Rush is apparently complianing that he should be given more of a chance to be a top star instead of a mid-level type. However, let's not forget this is one guy who has the tendency to have the inability to "keep his big mouth shut". +

Booker T even gave some advice on his podcast to Rush:

“And a guy like this [Lio Rush], has been in a good position, working with Bobby Lashley. It seems like he would be on top of the world in that position working on the pay-per-views and what not. But sometimes, I don’t know, you can start believing in your own press clippings. Sometimes, you can start thinking, ‘Hey, man. This is not a job.’ One thing about this WWE thing … You can call it what you want, but this their stuff man. It’s their show. If you learn how to work inside the — I wouldn’t even call them rules or anything like that — if you can learn how to work inside of ‘the game’ and know how to get in and stay in ‘the game,’ at the end of the day man, you make a lot of money, you take care of your family. I just don’t know when people stop thinking about the endgame is and start thinking about–”

“I remember back in WCW, man. And this is the truth. So many of those WCW guys that a lot of these guys today watched on television — a lot of those guys thought they were really, really big stars until the doors closed, and then they had to find work somewhere. A lot of those guys never, ever worked in a major company ever again. You know why? It wasn’t about them. That’s why. There are so many guys looking to take that spot that you have. Not that you can’t go somewhere else and make money. That’s not what it’s about. That’s not what I’m talking about right here. I’m talking about if you’re in a position to make as much money as you can — you have the opportunity to make as much money as you can — and if you’re not doing that, that’s another story. If you’re not happy, that’s another story. But if you’re in that position to do that and you’re worried about what someone else is doing, it just confuses me. I hope the brother [Lio Rush] can get the heat off of him because he’s very talented. He’s a great talker as well as a great worker. I mean cruiserweights, man. There’s money there for this guy to be making for a long time, and hopefully the heat can melt away, and Lio Rush can get back in the game because right now, he’s sitting on the sidelines. Lio! Get your game right, man. Just like them Rockets. Get your game tight.”

Both Corey Graves and Carmella have brought their sides of the story on their rumored relationship that apparently ended Graves' marriage. Graves has pretty much stated that the marriage was already failing and they only stayed longer for the kids, but it was time to finally end it. As for the relationship with Carmella, the story he said was made out of anger from Internet trolls and that both he and Carmella have moved on. Carmella even went on the Bellas podcast to proclaim she never would be a homewrecker.

Lio Rush turned down a 5-year, 300K/year figure with WWE and is now asking for his release

His little attitude has ticked off some, including...

Reby Sky Hardy

Mark Henry:
“It’s not a race issue. It’s an ego issue. Who are you? Nobody is exempt from being respectful to the business and paying homage to the guys drawing money. We all have done it. Steve Austin did it. The Rock did it. You better than The Rock? Get the hell out of here!”

Chris Jericho called out a fan who was defending Rush

It looks like Dixie Carter may be doing some content for WWE, involving her "nephew" EC3?

Jerry Lynn has joined All Elite Wrestling as a coach.

Toni Storm was to have met Bea Priestly for a match on May 16th, but WWE has put a stop to it because Storm is NXT UK and Priestly is AEW.

Congrats to Matt Morgan. The former WWE and Impact Wrestling star is now the Mayor of Longwood, Florida (not far from where I live :D)

Kurt Angle may be done with WWE as an in-ring performer, but it looks like he is planning to stay with the company as a producer. He has been training for the role as of late.

It's being rumored that Jake Hager, after his MMA match at Bellator this Saturday, may possibly go "double or nothing"...Yes, he may be going to All Elite Wrestling.

Stephanie McMahon received an honorary doctorate in business administration after doing a commencement speech at Robert Morris University. Note the school also has a "Survey of WWE" electorate class. Bianca Belair of NXT graduated from the University of Tennessee.

NJPW had to make changes to its lineup for the 2019 Best of the Super Juniors tournament. El Desparado is out with a broken jaw sustained in a hardcore match with Jun Kasai at TakaTaichi Mania 2. Flip Gordon is stuck in the US with visa issues. They will be replaced by Douki, a freelancer who is making his NJPW debut, and NJPW dojo trainee Ren Narita.

Sad news out of London. Silver King passed away today at the age of 51. He was wrestling Juventud Guerrera at The Greatest Show of Lucha Libre event held at the Roundhouse. He suffered a cardiac arrest when pinning him and apparently died when Guerrera rolled him over to end the match. The son of the original Doctor Wagner began wrestling in 1985 and formed a famous tag team with the original El Texano called The Cowboys. He was most known for appearing in WCW, as Black Tiger III in NJPW and as Ramses in the movie Nacho Libre.

It appears World of Sport is stil active in the U.K, depsite WWE buying up half their roster over the last year or so. They then went on to sign up Jim Ross and Kurt Angle, to stop them being involved with WOS come-back shows. You could say they did everything within their power to crush the small British promotion. The U.K media giant ITV, who own the brand name etc, will also now be showing the AEW Double of Nothing Pre-show on ITV-4 later this month. The channel will also be offering the event itself, as part of their PPV serivce. There's also talks about them showing the AEW weekly show, once it gets up and running. With a possibilty of World of Sport returning too, and maybe doing some inter-promotional anges/match.

Poster for the highly succesful WOS Tour, earlier this year.

AEW comes to U.K screen this month, thanks to ITV.

I didn't see anything on the Xfinity site about it so if it was there, it's gone now.

So AEW signed refs Earl Hebner, Aubrey Edwards and longtime ROH ref Paul Turner.

SCU went over to China for a match in OWE.

ROH War of the Worlds Grand Rapids

  • Coast 2 Coast defeated Alex Coughlin & Karl Fredericks.
  • Kelly Klein defeated Stacy Shadows to retain the WOH title.
  • Dalton Castle defeated Cheeseburger and Clark Connors in a three-way match.
  • The Kingdom defeated G.O.D & Hikuleo.
  • Flip Gordon defeated Rhett Titus.
  • Sanada & Evil defeated The Bouncers.
  • Tracy Williams defeated Rush, P.J. Black and Eli Isom in a fatal four-way.
  • Matt Taven defeated Tracy Williams to retain the ROH World Championship.
  • Jeff Cobb, Jay Lethal, Hirooki Goto, Satoshi Kojima & Yuji Nagata defeated Bully Ray, Silas Young, Shane Taylor & The Briscoes.

And what was WWE creative thinking when they gave Asuka & Kairi the name Kabuki Warriors? A decent portion of America knows that Kabuki is male theater.

42 minutes ago, Drunken Monk said:

Is Sasha Banks officially done with WWE or has there been no news since her abrupt "break?"

The last thing I remember was her husband denied any tantrum that occurred. I think perhaps she is just staying quiet for now.

All Elite Wrestling has signed a deal to air on TNT Network.

Did anyone see the latest Firefly Fun House? Bray Wyatt looks to be taking perhaps the Finn Balor route from creepy children's show host to "demonic clown". BTW, the mask was created by the legendary Tom Savini based on an original design by Kyle Scarborough.

Lars Sullivan was fined $100,000 and will attend sensitivity training classes for his past racist remarks. Sullivan apologized to the entire WWE roster for his actions from nearly a decade ago. Titus O'Neal went on Twitter to support Sullivan and thank him for the apology.

The team of Asuka and Kairi Sane have been given the name The Kabuki Warriors. Paige, who is their manager, told the Twitterverse that the name came from the Japanese duo after they had originally wanted to be called The Kabuki Girls.

Undertaker vs Goldberg and Orton vs Triple H.  Saudi guy sure likes his nostalgia.  I won't be watching though, both matches are meaningless in 2019 and frankly won't be any good.

Smackdown hits lowest USA number since they went live.  Fox have to be worried at this point.  If they think they are magically gonna find 2 million more viewers they must be having a laugh.
