It's 2019...so time for a new Pro Wrestling Thread!

It is official...All Elite Wresting was officially announced and it has been revealed that Tony Khan, the co-owner of NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, is the president of AEW. An official press conference will be held on January 8 to discuss their event, Double or Nothing, the follow-up to the original, All In! While Khan will serve as President, The Young Bucks, Matt and Nick Jackson will serve as Executive Vice Presidents.

https://www.cbssports.com/wwe/news/new-promotion-all-elite-wrestling-announced-along-with-aew-double-or-nothing-event/

The official announcement of the promotion was seen on a special episode of Being the Elite

John Cena made his return to WWE TV last night, teaming up with Becky Lynch to take on Andrade Cien Almas and Zelina Vega. Cena debuted his new finishing move, the "Lightning Fist" (a kung fu style back fist) which he hits after the Attitude Adjustment. He used the move first in house shows in Shanghai, but this is the first time seen on WWE TV.

Bandido has had offers from WWE, All Elite Wrestling, and Ring of Honor...he has opted to sign with Ring of Honor.

Kevin Owens is gearing for his return and it has been revealed he lost some pounds. It has been long rumored that Vince McMahon was unhappy with Owens' weight and now that he had his surgery and is in training, it looks like Owens is going to make his return soon. Perhaps, the Royal Rumble?

Also back in training is Braun Strowman, who is back in the gym after his successful elbow surgery

It has been rumored that the reason that Paige has been removed from her post as WWE Smackdown GM is because she will be doing heavy press for her upcoming biopic Fighting with My Family, starring Florence Pugh as Paige and Dwayne Johnson as himself.

Toni Storm has been the latest victim of a leaked nude photo scandal and as a result, she has opted to delete her social media accounts for now.

Chris Jericho is saying WWE is watching NJPW as NJPW and ROH will have a cross-promotional event at Madison Square Garden in NYC the weekend of WrestleMania XXXV.

“WWE is watching. Anytime you have a company that can come into WWE’s backyard and sell out Madison Square Garden — you can spin it anyway you want to; it’s WrestleMania weekend — it doesn’t matter. They did something that WWE has not done in years. They tried to block this show and it didn’t work out. When you’re talking about a company that has nationwide TV on AXS, it’s not NBC or USA, but it’s still funded by a billionaire, Mark Cuban. There is money there. WWE never takes anything like that lightly.”

Britt Baker has signed on with All Elite Wrestling. She faced Madison Rayne, Chelsea Green, and Tessa Blanchard at the All In event.

Speaking of AEW, they are following Bill Goldberg, who in turn is following them back...of course this is now leading into some spec news, but take it with a grain of salt.

Matt Riddle defeated Kassius Ohno on NXT last night.

I dont understand, why people put private images such as this online?, why?, at what point in society, did we start putting nudes images of ourselves online?, along with our banking detiails, Holiday snaps etc, when its a known fact people get their stuff hacked shared online.

It is looking like both Chris Jericho and Goldberg will be involved in All Elite Wrestling. AEW has followed Goldberg on social media with the veteran following them back. In addition, Goldberg and Jericho's agent Barry Bloom will be heavily involved with the company.

Enzo Amore is now using the name nZo and has released a new song called "Grace"

It's a chess match between a lot of different people. Vince restarts the XFL so the owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars give The Elite $100 million for AWE. AWE now puts pressure on ROH since that primarily runs shows in the east and south.  This also puts NJPW in a bind since it runs shows with ROH but probably doesn't want to cease relations with The Elite, a group it helped develop. Wonder if the parent company of ROH, Sinclair, will invest more into it now.

NJPW made some huge announcements between the opening gauntlet match and the Never Openweight title match:

  1. A third New Beginning USA show was added for February 2nd. It will be held in Nashville, Tennessee.
  2. It announced a show in London, England on August 31st at the Copper Box Arena.
  3. The first show in the G1 Climax tournament will not be in Japan. Instead it will be July 6th in Dallas, Texas at the American Airlines Center, home of the Stars and Mavericks.
  4. WrestleKingdom 14 will be two nights long.

Kota Ibushi suffered a concussion in the Never Openweight title match against Will Ospreay.

Nick Aldis will defend his NWA World Heavyweight title against PJ Black at the ROH TV taping in Atlanta, Georgia on January 12. The two promotions are also partnering up to revive the Crockett Cup in Concord, North Carolina on April 27. ROH is holding a Tag Wars tournament at their Road to the G1 Supercard shows with the winners receiving spots in the Crockett Cup and a ROH Tag titles match at its 17th Anniversary show in March.

A documentary on Nigel McGuinness called The Nigel McGuinness Story will be shown on the WWE Network after NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool. Hulk Hogan will appear on RAW to pay tribute to Mean Gene Okerlund. Speaking of Okerlund, here's a factoid from Kevin Nash:

Yeah he was the alternate for the third man in the NWO.

IMPACT Wrestling Homecoming 2019 Results

Source- https://www.cagesideseats.com/impact-wrestling/2019/1/6/18170112/impact-wrestling-homecoming-live-results-brian-cage-vs-johnny-impact-lucha-bros-vs-lax

- Rich Swann def. Ethan Page, Jake Crist, & Trey Miguel in a wild Ultimate X match to win the vacant X Division championship

- Dark Allie & Su Yung def. Kiera Hogan & Jordynne Grace when Allie locks in the mandible claw on Kiera with Su’s nasty glove. After the match, Su calls for her bridesmaids and the coffin.... BUT ROSEMARY IS IN THE COFFIN! ROSEMARY IS BACK! SHE FIGHTS OFF BRIDESMAIDS AND THEN TOSSES SU INTO ALL OF THEM!

Rosemary, who has more of a demonic look than prior, stalks Allie, who looks terrified. Rosemary tries to pat her friend on her head like she used to, but Allie freaks out and runs out of the ring.

- Eddie Edwards def. Moose in a Falls Count Anywhere match

At the end of the match, Eddie is wailing Moose with his kendo stick when Alisha runs out and takes the the kendo stick from him and tells him it’s enough... AND THEN SHE STARTS BEATING MOOSE WITH THE KENDO STICK! Then a few more from Eddie and a DDT gets the 1-2-3.

- Sami Callihan def. Willie Mack with a piledriver.

Dave Crist got involved multiple times and Mack kicked out at 1 multiple times at the end of the match prior to the finish.

- Eli Drake vs. Abyss in a Monster’s Ball match after breaking the oar he brings to the ring over Abyss’ head.

In the middle of the match, the referee took some tacks to the face (later, Eli would get choke slammed into those tacks).

- LAX (c) def. the Lucha Bros to retain the tag team championships in a bonkers match

Konnan comes out after the match and admits he was wrong pushing against this match. The teams shake hands and embrace afterwards.

- Taya Valkyrie def. Tessa Blanchard (c) to win the Knockouts title

Gail Kim was the special referee and Tessa tried her too much. In the middle of the match, Tessa accidentally hit Gail with a forearm so Gail was not able to count the pinfall after Tessa delivered the Buzzsaw. She then tried to use the championship as a weapon thinking Gail was still down, but Kim ripped it from her and accidentally hit Taya with it. Taya was able to kick out.

At the end of the match, Tessa was getting more and more frustrated that she couldn’t put Taya away. She eventually got into Gail’s face and tried to choke her so Kim delivered Eat Defeat and Taya delivered the Road to Valhalla for the win.

- Johnny Impact (c) vs. Brian Cage for the Impact world championship

Cage hit the Drill Claw, but the referee was out of the ring trying to prevent Johnny’s stupid Survivor friends from jumping the rail. Then Johnny hit a Sunset Flip over the top rope and looks like he may have gotten a 3. (It was a bit sloppy.)

Cage tosses the belt at Johnny and stormed off. Johnny celebrates with Taya.

Afterwards, Killer Kross attacks Johnny from behind. Taya tries to attack her but powerbombs her into the crowd!

A tribute to the late great Mean Gene Okerlund

If this Tweet says anything...could Woken Matt Hardy be returning to WWE sometime this year?

Not only are KUSHIDA and Kenny Omega planning to leave NJPW, but it is now rumored that Tetsuya Naito may be leaving too and that the WWE are interested in the trio, making a very "interesting offer" to Omega and sending "feelers" to KUSHIDA and possibly Naito, according to Dave Meltzer.

I just don't the Jim Duggan connection, its more Beatrix Kiddo as you say, with a touch of the mid-90's, Mick Foley barbed wire baseball bat wielidng ,Cactus Jack character. If WWE claims its PG family friendly, whys one of its female stars holding up a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire?.

AEW looks very very promising so far. I am intrigued!!! I really wanted to go but I'm already saving up to go to the first night of the G1 in Dallas and I can at least drive there as oppose to buying airfare for the AEW show. Can't wait!!

You are one lucky dude, and that makes total sense, with some luck, AEW will be putting on a lot of shows in the future.

When you said you were driving to Dallas, this movie scene popped into my head.

The Current AEW Roster are: The Young Bucks, Cody Rhodes, Brandi Rhodes, Chris Jericho, “Hangman” Page, Christopher Daniels, Frankie Kazarian, Scorpio Sky, MJF, Joey Janela, Penelope Ford, Britt Baker, PAC and Billy Gunn as a producer.

WWE has interest in another NJPW star and that is SANADA. Rocky Romero has signed a new deal and is staying with NJPW.

It's a good day to be The Man...Becky Lynch has defeated both Charlotte Flair and Carmella to face Asuka for the Smackdown Women's Championship at the Royal Rumble. Lynch used her Disarmer on Carmella after an attempt to use it on Flair was thwarted by Carmella.

Bill Goldberg has also been linked to the promotion, if he does join, I doubt he will be a full time member of the roster?.
