Custom DVDs: PAL or NTSC

  1. 1. Do you prefer PAL or NTSC for custom DVDs?

    • PAL (4% speedup from film but greater vertical resolution)

    • NTSC (no speedup, 3:2 pulldown added, slightly lower resolution than PAL)

I'm conducting a poll because I'm uncertain whether to make my custom DVD's PAL or NTSC as standard for the future. I normally make them NTSC to avoid the 4% speedup when converting film to PAL, but personally generally prefer working with PAL as it is much easier to convert back to 24FPS (NTSC has an extra feild for every two frames and requires inverse telecine which can be tricky when DVDs are not authored properly) and has a greater resolution of 576 horizontal lines.

PAL also uses different colour profiling than NTSC, and is capable of displaying a wider spectrum of colours than NTSC.

OR if you don't like PAL or NTSC altogether, I can provide my customs as 720p 35Mbps Quicktime files from now on at a native 24FPS.
