Alexander Wraith (Appreciation Thread)

Recommended Posts

Born on June 29, 1984 in Englewood, New Jersey, Alexander Wraith has been making a name for himself in various films and projects. Perhaps many will know him as the villain who was on the receiving end of a vicious flying knee strike by Jang Dong-Gun in the 2014 thriller No Tears for the Dead. However, Wraith is a highly skilled martial artist and stunt performer who was a Junior Olympian in Taekwondo, earning a gold medal. He is also skilled in Jeet Kune Do, Kung Fu, and Kickboxing. Training at Australia's National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), he would learn the art of filmmaking by Oliver Stone, who would bring him on the set of his films, where Alex learned the tricks of the trade.

He would eventually become friends with Stone's son Sean and the duo co-wrote an 80's-set kung fu comedy called Fury of the Fist and the Golden Fleece. Stone would play the titular Fist, a cross between Big Trouble in Little China's Jack Burton and Austin Powers, while Wraith played the Fist's best friend El Guapo, a martial arts fighting version of Scarface's Tony Montana. Wraith would also serve as editor, director, and co-fight choreographer.

He held the record for the fastest kick at one point and he would end up on The Doctors for his martial arts ability. Wraith continues to work today in films and TV. He will reprise his role of Vasily in Orange in the New Black, season 6 which comes to Netflix in July.
