Secret Agent (2016) - Kim Ji-woon returns to Korean cinema with Song Kang-ho

Recommended Posts

For those who have been yearning for the director of such classics like 'A Tale of Two Sisters', 'A Bittersweet Life', and 'I Saw the Devil' to get back to his native Korea, this news should come as music to your ears.  Ji-woon hasn't made a full length feature since his 2013 English language debut 'The Last Stand', with Arnold Schwarzenegger, which was only met with a lukewarm reception, so 'Secret Agent' comes with high expectations.

More significantly, it will also mark the first time Hollywood studio Warner Bros. enters into the Korean movie industry, as they'll be financing and distributing the feature.  Details are thin on the ground right now, but it will star Song Kang-ho, with a plot that, similar to 'Assassination', will take place in the 1930's and focus on the history of the Organization of Righteous Bravery, a part of the armed independence movement that was active while Korea was under Japanese rule.

Filming began in August.
