I Saw The Devil (2011)

Recommended Posts

The dvd I saw ends with Agent Kim walking away from the killers house after the taxi drops off the family. In the extras it shows him getting a new identity and waiting in a bus or ferry stop, which I assume was the uncut ending.

Ah, I see. Just to clear things up about this movie, there is no 'uncut' version of it. It exists in 2 versions - the Korean cut & the International cut. Both versions contain some brief scenes the other doesn't, and even some alternative angles in certain shots & slightly different music cues.

The scene you're referring to is a deleted scene, so therefore doesn't appear in either cut. I think Ji-woon made the correct decision to not include it in the final cut (both of them!)...the last shot showing Byung-hun releasing his grief is a powerful image and the perfect way to end the movie. The deleted scene would seem unnecessary and tacked on if it was included, as well as weakening the power of how the movie ends in it's current form.

@OAB: No that scene is in one of the cuts, there is also a scene when there at the Hotel with the cannibals and the Guy has sex with the other guys girl on the table kinda of a rough rape scene but she liked it and it wasn't in the delete scene. I have it on my Korean version copy.

Watched this last night on netflicks, was excited to watch two of the finest actors working today, seriously, Lee Byung-hun is one of the best leading men in film today, he oozes charisma in every scene.

The movie itself however fell flat for me, I became increasingly frustrated with every rape and murder Choi Min-sik committed, I'm not sure about the rest of you, but if I happened upon some asshole trying to rape a young teenage girl it would be enough for me to kill the fuck without losing a loved one, I understand what they were trying to go for, but it didn't make much sense, plus the end, what was the point of beheading the guy in front of his family? Especially a young boy who I'm sure had enough problems with an estranged father, not to mention he told him were to find him in the first place.

I understand you wouldn't of had a movie if he just killed him the first time around, and I was glad it didn't turn into an hour long torture porn but really the end left me feeling like he got off easy, not to mention he was getting off on it. Well maybe I'll enjoy the Good-Bad-Weird better.

The movie fell flat for me as well, but then not a lot of women enjoy watching rape scenes and torture.....
