  1. Do you know if there's any custom firmware for this player ? ( thought it required actual firmware hacks to get region free accessibility for the 5990). This player doesn't come region free by default I don't think. .
  2. So I just picked up this PHILIPS DVP 5990 with 1080i HD Upconversion, threw a DVD in there loaded with a couple of .avi file moves (presumably Xvid encode) and got "resolution not supported" errors on both, which were different file sizes and encode types. I've read around that this might be because of anyof the following reasons: DivX support dosen't include XviD The file names are too long on my files. It needs a firmware update/upgrade to make them playable What I can say, is that my own pure DivX encode from a DVD did actually work. I used DivX authoring to create that particular file and can attest to it being 100% DivX, but I've read in other places that this player is playing XviD's for people. Anyone have any advice, experience here that can shed some light would be cool.

    DVD / Blu-ray / VHS Cover Requests

Looking for a few DVD covers. Celestial Remaster version covers (ie: the now commonly sold cases with red stripe at top with SB logo, and Celestial Pictures logo at the bottom corner) for the following SB titles: The Five Venoms The Tigress of Shaolin Usurpers of Emperors Power The Deadly Knives Also looking for DVD covers for Bruce Lee Ultimate Fully Re-Mastered DVD Collection. Much thanks to anyone that can help, and I can trade things worth your time (pm me). EDIT: Found many of my original list just perusing CDcovers.cc. Omitted those, still looking for those listed. .

What are your latest DVD/Blu-ray purchases?

Yeah as much as I love those guys (many episodes are hilarious *both the Movie (This Island Earth), Manos the Hands of Fate, and (lol) Samson vs. the Vampire Woman come to mind) I'd probably rather have the entire MST3K collection with no commentary or silhouettes each on a separate DVD. That's basically 175 (really bad) movies not including shorts, specials, the movie, or now infamous season O (KTMA TV). You got a steal. I paid about $190.00 for my Twilight Zone collection, but I'm such a die-hard Serling loyalist, and long time TZ fan, that it was a really easy decision (I was sort of waiting for the entire collection to be packaged together for a few years). In another thread I asked If you could only keep 3 from your Kung Fu collection, well if I could only keep 1 series, set or specific genre of my DVD's, it would be (without hesitation) my Twilight Zone collection. Though right now I have this insatiable appetite for 60's era Asian cinema (love the film stock in those days), so the few I have of those would probably need to come too lol.

What are your latest DVD/Blu-ray purchases?

It's probably not a fair assessment, as everything I'm basing that opinion on is coming from the perspective of a 13 year old kid. Not exactly an NPOV lol. My friends would have lynched me for stopping on Golden Girls watching T.V back then.

What are your latest DVD/Blu-ray purchases?

Just picked up DVD 9 of the Mystery Science Theater 3000 collection. I have the entire series in digital files (250 Gigz at 700 mb per movie lol), but wanted the original DVD's. I would have bought DVD 10 as well, but Twilight Zone The Complete Definitive Collection just broke my bank last time out eshopping, so I'm saving pennies. Echh. An unfortunate experiment in American television (to me at least). I realize it's a subjective / eye of the beholder argument, but that show was worse than Mama's Family to me. And that's pretty bad. I think I must owe this in part to being both gen-x, and male. Characteristics not typically linked to having an affinity for elderly women, and sitcoms written around them. Maybe I never gave the writing a chance, that I blame on being a kid, and then a teenager as the show aired. On a side note: We're in unfaltering agreement over Cheers. Cheers was simply awesome. I'd happily revisit each episode as would friends. If for nothing else, to hear Cliff Clavin elaborately describe in detail a totally useless fact. The writing to the rapport and chemistry among the entire cast was really one of a kind.

It should work if you follow those instructions to a T. When converting an image, when you hit Next after setting mask area, just leave it as it is, don't change anything. Leave it all selected and leave it on windows Vista then keep going as described.
  12. Oh my dear god.. Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave (1978) (it's not even listed at imdb lol) <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EX3yngdUtM&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EX3yngdUtM&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Militant Eagle (1978) <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-gHyYPWzc0&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-gHyYPWzc0&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> Fist of Fear Touch of Death (1980) (lmao) <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value=" "></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src=" " type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

This application called Pixelshop . It's only free for 30 days but that's plenty time to make hundreds of icons. The kicker is, you have to use the button on the 2nd Start up pop up screen that says 'Convert Image' (import image and open won't work). Then navigate (Select) to your image file that should have your image cleanly cut out against a solid color background (white is best), Make sure the Use Mask Color is selected and that the color is the same as your background, click next and the default is Windows Vista and a host of different icons options, just hit Finish here with all of those icon options checked despite what OS you have, as Pixelshop is weird and likes to crash if you don't. It will render all of the diff icons, but to the right scroll through them until you see 48 x 48 Alpha, highlight that and then go to File Save As and save it somewhere and that's your icon. Alternately you could choose 256 x 256 Alpha if you prefer enormous icons, or 16x 16 Alpha for tiny ones - but I personally prefer 48 x 48. What's weird is because you have to use the Convert Image at the start up, I had to keep restarting the app per each image I did lol (if I bought this that would be my first question to them, why Convert Image isn't located within the apps UI).

Thanks. Yeah it was actually kind of a hassle, as it was trial and error with the originals having unsightly "outline", because after cutting out the faces, I made the backgrounds a solid color so they could be index transparent so the icons weren't blocks but just the shapes of the heads. Then I brought them into several different icon progs that all made them into icons with these jagged white edges, because most icon progs won't use alpha transparency and edge smoothing. So the icons looked unprofessional. Finally, after trying 6 different apps, I found a prog that used alpha transparancy and edge smoothing when making icons and am happy with the end results. No halos, just heads.
  15. The 3 highlighted on your list aren't deserving the distinction "worst" kf movies, IMO. Though the OP's choice of 'Bruce Lee Fights Back From The Grave' got a lowly 1 lamp rating at the always generous Stomp Tokyo review site, so I'm steering clear of that one.
