    Inagaki's Samurai Trilogy

I paid a pretty penny to get the DVD boxset at Barnes & Noble a few years ago (before I realized how ridiculously overpriced they are), but it's worth it. These are probably my favorite non-Sonny Chiba samurai movies. I remember reading the huge Eiji Yoshikawa novel in junior college lol.
  2. I like them all (brawling versus technical, kicking versus grappling, Chinese versus Japanese versus Western, traditional versus modern/sport, weapons versus empty handed, etc), I just hate when there's a "theme", like they're balancing on a table or a ladder, or one of them is trying to keep a vase from breaking, or something like that.

    A Question About Swords

High carbon if you want a "cutter", I'd recommend Hanwei, Cheness or Cold Steel. For a knife, 440 stainless is still considered a "junker", but is still useful. But I wouldn't do any cutting with a 440 stainless sword, it's too brittle and can't take the stress of cutting through bamboo or straw mats.

What are your latest DVD/Blu-ray purchases?

True Legend Ip Man Ip Man 2 Sucker Punch
  5. I don't expect too much from a martial arts film, just a decent transfer and good subtitles (this includes opening scene kanji as well!). I expect good extras, interviews, commentary, deleted scenes, etc, for something like a Star Wars or Harry Potter or LOTR boxset, or any kind of big-budget Hollywood sci-fi or fantasy epic.

    Ip Man 2

Just finally got around to watching this today, and really liked it. Sure the Westerners were portrayed in their usual Kung Fu movie manner, but at least they paid boxers their dues. Without kicks, knees, elbows, throws, holds, pins, chokes or striking prohibited areas, I don't think any of those guys would have been able to last a few rounds with a powerful, fast, precise boxer. Props. And I was hoping that the dojo-basher from the first film would get to fight, since he was my favorite part of that film, but I liked his character arc, and seeing that his pupil was "going Anakin" in the same way. All-in-all, very good. I was skeptical because I had been burned by the "Return of Chen Zhen" movies, which I hated, but Ip Man is now in my Fist of Legend/Fearless category.

Frank Dux Documentary: Put Up Your Dux

I love Bloodsport, but Frank Dux is crazy. I don't mean like, "Oh, yeah, that dude is nuts!", I mean genuinely crazy, as in can't tell reality from his own lies anymore. His martial arts training, the Kumite, his military history and intelligence work, his interaction with the Black Dragon Society, all of it, complete fabrications.

What are your latest DVD/Blu-ray purchases?

Latest purchases were True Legend, Ip Man 1 and 2, The Mechanic and an old used copy of The Killer Elite.
  9. He's had Bas Rutten and Rampage on King of Queens a few times, and Joe Rogan is in his new Zoo comedy, so he must be tight with those guys.

    Jeff Speakman -. the expert...

Was this the one where he had to break into the prison that had the crazy warden? I remember watching that with my roomate in the mid-90's many times.
  11. Watched True Legend a few nights ago. Really liked it, but wasn't expecting the plot to continue and shift dramatically after the 1st boss fight.
  12. I'll probably just buy the dvd on ebay soon. It looks cool.
