    This is still BRUCESPLOITATION

er...nope Fist 2 pic with Return of the Tiger cast ;-)
  3. Bruce's films shouldn't be in the poll IMO as they are looked upon as the high watermark of action in that period, they are in a kind of category of their own. 1970 - 1974 was such a Golden age for HK MA films and there are many greats including a heap of independent films too.

BASHER: The origin of the term.

I think it was someone like Toby Russell who came up with the term, If not him it was another of the London-centric crowd...Chris Alexis maybe?

Any movies similar to Bruce Lee's The Big Boss?

Wang Yu's THE TATTOOED DRAGON....Thai setting, gambling lots of thug types running the town, good climax against James Tien.

    One Armed Boxer Uncut?

Thanks LS, apparently Bruce's 5 kicks to Chuck's head in WAY were snipped by the censors on it's first run, maybe that came under the same new regulations.
  9. It's widely recognised that One Armed Boxer was heavily censored by the HK Censors (even more in it's UK Theatrical run). If a full version exists in the archives, IMHO it's as valuable as the missing "full" cut of The Big Boss. Does anyone know of any other versions that's shows more or all the versions out there the same?

    One Armed Boxer Uncut?

Yeah, KM even the Rank tape from '82 was the uncut version. What I'm alluding to is the fact that when you compare say, Jimmy killing Lo Lieh in The Chinese Boxer, with the same killing blow to Lung Fei in One Arrmed; you can tell the visceral effect has been lessened. When the film came out it fell foul of a new policy by the censors. In contrast it seems The Big Boss missed it...maybe it was released a bit sooner?

    One Armed Boxer Uncut?

I haven't seen a list but it's obvious in the film that a lot of the impact of some of the more bloodier hits has been lessened by trimming frames and not lingering on the effect, when you compare it to other films of the period.

Bruce Lee's The Big Boss (Appreciation Thread)

Yes you are right the still does show the scene with him choosing the girl (I got mixed up with his earlier visit)...you didn't see Lee's "behind" ;-P the girls POV shot had him filmed from the waist up, as far as I can remember there was no more than about a minute in the room nothing else.

Bruce Lee's The Big Boss (Appreciation Thread)

The brothel scene played out like this...Lee goes to the brothel to look for Malalene, finds she isn't there (she's dead remember), and is seen by the other prostitute who asks him to stay...the go down the corridor to a room and they both get undressed (seen in the early trailer), the girl gets on the bed and from her point of view we see Lee get on top of her, in a jump cut he gets up and is putting on his shirt, he picks up the crackers from a table and exits the brothel, the next shot has him arriving at the mansion.

Bruce Lee's The Big Boss (Appreciation Thread)

For somebody who was present at that infamous 1979 Big Boss screening (yes I'm that old) I can say there was no "peeping" or saw scene in that print. As to a Rank video that showed extra scenes to the regular version, why would they do that? It make no sense whatsoever to release hundreds (thousands?) of vhs/beta tapes with the regular cut version out to video shops and then a few uncut tapes to....who exactly? It wasn't classed as a "video nasty", was never withdrawn and then re-released in cut form (like Fist of Fury & Enter the Dragon)...I have to say this urban legend is just that...an urban legend unless someone can produce the tape footage.
  25. I used to have a pan/scan boot of this on VHS :-( should have copied it to dvdr
