Five Fingers of Death [T-Shirt]

In 1972 the Shaw Brothers kung fu movie classic KING BOXER reached US shores as FIVE FINGERS OF DEATH (a re-titling that the film’s director has said he prefers), bringing the bold martial arts action of Hong Kong to our shores even before Bruce Lee. It features many of the elements that would become future genre staples: a Chinese school disgraced by brutal, murderous Japanese warriors, a young idealistic student that learns a powerful “secret technique” to get revenge, a traitorous insider, and a tournament where the school hopes to regain their honor. When Chao Chi-Hao (Lo Lieh in a rare heroic role) endures the torturous training to perfect his “Iron Palm” skills you can practically feel his pain. And when he exacts his revenge, his hands glowing red and accompanied by the unforgettable strains of the IRONSIDE TV show theme, we share in the excitement of his merciless vengeance. Strong characters, groan-inducing falls, and plenty of action have made director Chung Chang-Hwa’s film a fan favorite that is always worth re-visiting. – Kung Fu Bob
