This is the art I created for my first 36 Styles T-shirt design. Based on beloved kung fu cinema icon, and real-life member of the Ten Tigers of Kwangtung- Beggar So, “The Drunken Master!” He’s also know as The King of Beggars, Sam Seed, So Chan, Su Can, and “That old drunk guy that’s easily beating everyone up.” The character has appeared in films like STORY OF DRUNKEN MASTER, WORLD OF DRUNKEN MASTER, KING OF BEGGARS,DANCE OF THE DRUNK MANTIS, and most notably in the classic DRUNKEN MASTER. Over the years Beggar So has been portrayed by FIVE VENOMS star Phillip Kwok (TEN TIGERS OF KWANGTUNG), Donnie Yen (HEROES AMONG HEROES), Vincent Zhao (TRUE LEGEND), and even by comedian Stephen Chow (KING OF BEGGARS). But none have portrayed him more memorably than action choreographer Yuen Woo-Ping’s father, Simon Yuen Siu-Tin. After appearing in over 300 films (among them genre faves like 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN and WONG FEI HUNG BRAVELY CRUSHING THE FIRE FORMATION) Simon suddenly found fame at the tender age of 66, playing the role he was born to play- Beggar So. No one that has ever seen it can forget watching him training (torturing?), and drinking and fighting alongside Jackie Chan in DRUNKEN MASTER.
The original art was accomplished with oil painting techniques via a Wacom Bamboo tablet and stylus pen in December, 2014.
This artwork has been professionally reproduced on acid and lignin-free, glossy 12 pt. light card-stock paper for all 11×17″ prints, and on high-quality, semi-gloss poster paper for all 18×24″ and 24×36″ poster prints. The design can also be separately purchased on a T-shirt at 36styles.
