What’s On TV This Week (October 19-25)

We are now firmly in the Halloween season, but all of those horror movies showing won’t keep this from being a big week of TV for martial arts fans too!

It all starts at 4:30 PM (Eastern time; all times listed are Eastern time) on El Rey with a showing of the 2003 “Beat” Takeshi version of ZATOICHI.

Tuesday morning on the Sony Movie Channel brings the classic SECRET RIVALS (6:40 AM) followed by SECRET RIVALS II (8:10 AM).

Wednesday is almost a day of rest; as there are no real martial arts flicks on. But MGM HD is showing the 1978 Japanese science fiction film MESSAGE FROM SPACE at 7:40 AM, which stars Sonny Chiba and Japan Action Club members Etsuko “Sue” Shihomi and Hiroyuki “Henry” Sanada.

Thursday El Rey brings you KUNG FURY (2:00 PM),  a little Bruce Lee with FIST OF FURY (2:45 PM) and WAY OF THE DRAGON (5:00 PM), followed by the classic FIVE DEADLY VENOMS (7:00 PM and 11:00 PM) and CRIPPLED AVENGERS (9:00 PM and 1:00 AM Friday morning).

Sony Movie kicks off Friday morning with an 8:20 AM showing of Ringo Lam’s FULL CONTACT (with Chow Yun Fat), but that’s it for the day.

Early Saturday morning AMC slips in TAI CHI ZERO at 2:00 AM (directed by Stephen Fung, who is also producing their upcoming martial arts series INTO THE BADLANDS) followed by the 1993 IRON MONKEY at 4:00 AM.

After that El Rey goes Bruce Lee crazy on Saturday and Sunday with GAME OF DEATH (6:00 AM, 2:45 PM and 11:15 PM Saturday, 8:00 AM and 4:45 PM Sunday), THE BIG BOSS (8:00 AM and 4:45 PM Saturday, 1:15 AM, 10:00 AM and 6:45 PM Sunday), FIST OF FURY (10:15 AM and 7:00 PM Saturday, 3:30 AM, 12:15 PM, and 9:00 PM Sunday) and WAY OF THE DRAGON (12:45 PM and 9:00 PM Saturday, 6:00 AM, 2:45 PM, and 11:30 PM Sunday).

Just in case you need a break from Bruce on Sunday, Sony is back with a 6:55 AM showing of the ’80s American martial arts flick THE LAST DRAGON.

Remember, all schedules are subject to change, so check your local listings and set those DVRs now!
