Martial arts television shows are making a return this week! You have your weekly, heaping helping of Chuck Norris in WALKER, TEXAS RANGER, with four episodes in a row Monday through Thursday on WGN starting at 9:00 AM, and two episodes each weeknight at 10:00 PM, and again at 2:00 AM on Inspiration, who also slips in another pair of episodes Sunday night at 8:00 PM. HAP AND LEONARD is still putting out new episodes on Sundance. Episode six premieres Wednesday at 10:00 PM, with re-airings at 2:10 AM and 6:30 AM Thursday, 4:30 AM Friday, and Saturday at 2:00 AM. A marathon of the entire series starts Wednesday at 2:15 AM, with last week’s episode (five) also being shown at 2:30 AM Monday, and 5:30 AM Tuesday. El Rey is bringing back MORTAL KOMBAT with four episodes in a row, starting at 6:00 AM Thursday. Finally, CBS has the second episode of RUSH HOUR Thursday at 10:00 PM. RUSH HOUR took a real beating from the critics, and, well, I can’t really argue with them!
On the movie side, things couldn’t start any better with FIVE DEADLY VENOMS (1979) on midnight Sunday on El Rey. They follow up with CRIPPLED AVENGERS (1978) at 2:00 AM, and THE FLYING GUILLOTINE(1975) at 4:00 AM. Sony jumps into the game with BLACK MASK 2: CITY OF MASKS (2002) at 5:45 AM, and THE MASTER GUNFIGHTER (1975) at 7:45 AM. HDNet Movies brings the day to a close with Gina Carano’s HAYWIRE(2012) at 8:00 PM, and again at 11:30 PM.
Wednesday is light, too. Sony is breaking out THE BIG HIT (1998) at 3:30 AM, and FULL CONTACT (1992) at 5:15 AM. I don’t know about you, but I think FULL CONTACT is one of the best movies Chow Yun Fat ever made. Come to think of it, THE BIG HIT is the best Marky Mark film bar none! FXX closes out the day with KUNG FU PANDA 2 (2011) at 6:00 PM. Now the week is already half over!
Thursday movies start at midnight with THE KARATE KID (2010) on FXX. They are showing KUNG FU PANDA 2 again at 3:00 PM, with a repeat of THE KARATE KID at 5:00 PM. Meanwhile, El Rey has CHALLENGE OF THE MASTERS (1976) at 4:00 PM, HOUSE OF TRAPS (1982) at 6:00 PM, HOLY FLAME OF THE MARTIAL WORLD (1983) at 8:00 PM, and INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN (1978) at 10:00 PM. Syfy sneaks BLADE TRINITY (2004) in at 7:30 PM, and BLADE (1998) at 10:00 PM. El Rey is repeating HOLY FLAME OF THE MARTIAL WORLD midnight Friday, followed by INVINCIBLE SHAOLIN at 2:00 AM, and IN EAGLE’S SHADOW FIST (1973) at 4:00 AM. Sony is playing BLACK MASK 2: CITY OF MASKS at 8:30 AM, and the day closes with BLADE TRINITY at 5:00 PM, and BLADE at 7:30 PM, both on Syfy.
Saturday? Nothing. Go play outside or something.
Sunday brings KICKBOXER (1989) at 8:45 AM on IFC, and THE BIG HIT at 1:05 PM on Sony. The day is dominated though, by El Rey who has THE MASTER (1980) at 10:00 AM, MASKED AVENGERS (1982) at noon, HOUSE OF TRAPS (1982) at 2:00 PM, THE TREASURE HUNTERS (1982) at 4:00 PM, and THE YOUNG VAGABOND (1985) at 6:00 PM, with repeats of THE MASTER at 8:00 PM, and THE MASKED AVENGERS at 10:00 PM.
