Top 5 Gordon Liu Movies

A Top 5 list of Gordon Liu movies? Is this sort of list even possible to compile? Would any non-Shaw Brothers films make the list? Has Gordon Liu ever made a bad film? The answers to all these questions to be answered and determined by the Disciples of Shaolin Chamber 36.

The Shaw Brothers movies that Gordon Liu has starred in, could quite honestly make it on any fans Top 5 Kung Fu Films of all time list. I’ve stated this several times before, that my all time favorite classic film of the genre, is undoubtedly The 36th Chamber of Shaolin (1978). My personal favorite non-Shaw Brothers films, coincidentally made the list as well, as it should have. I want to thank all of you who participated in this latest poll. Actually, I have never received so many entries in a Top 5 survey before. Which just goes to show, that a lot of you out there are definite fans of this iconic film legend, and had no problem compiling your Top 5 list.

Not every film Gordon has appeared in has been a masterpiece, there are those in which he only briefly appeared, those in which he did not get to display his true martial skill, and then those non-Shaw Brothers films that did not contain that “magic”, or certain movies that were mediocre at best. Enough about that, let’s get on to why we’re all here.

Now for the list of the TOP 5 Gordon Liu Movies, as voted on by the SC36 disciples:

Here is a list of honorable mentions:

  • Dirty Ho (1979)
  • Return to the 36th Chamber (1980)
  • Challenge of the Masters (1976)
  • Legendary Weapons of China (1982)

Hey i love these films, just started downloading them recently. Does anyone know the movie with Gordon Liu where it begins with him posing as a Shaolin Monk (before he gets trained) to scare off these bad guys coming to his village, but then gets his butt kicked and so in shame, he leaves to go learn shaolin? I know its a vague description but i just can’t remember because i was a child when i saw this film. Any help?
